Blending his affinity for American blues and roots music with his love of travel and world beat rhythms and instrumentation, Mike Starling has created an organic global sound perfect for soundtracks and slide shows.
Street musicians in Sydney, Australia, for example, gave Mike his first taste of the didgeridoo and he immediately sought to incorporate the earthy tones of the ancient Aboriginal wind instrument into his music. The resulting CD, "Didjeriblue, Vol. 1", has been featured on shows on the Discovery Channel, History Channel, Animal Planet, A&E, MTV and many more.
"Guitar Moods" – inspired by Mike's travels to Ireland, Latin America, and America's own Great River Road – is his latest release. Twelve guitar ensemble pieces evoke visions of exotic journeys in sight and sound.
"Quite a new world for moody, instrumental guitar subtlety," said Dr. Martin Jack Rosenblum, a Rounder Records recording artist and professor of music, literature, and history at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, in his CD review of "Guitar Moods" for the Shepherd Express newspaper.
