The Pleasantdales were formed in 1998 by high school friends Mike Schmeelk
(vocals and guitar) and Jeff Little (bass) along with fellow Atlanta musicians
James ³JJ²
Jones (guitar) and Steve Hrach (drums). The band pursued a straightforward,
no-frills ROCK approach which helped them stand out from the dominant
³alternative² scene focusing on strong, melodic songwriting and energetic
live performances.
With support from local radio, the band released its first album, Figure Out
Luck in 1999. Produced by Butch Walker, the album included the standout single
Sign Me Up. In 2001, the band released its second album Pretty Scars which received rave reviews from the local music press and caught the attention of
several southern radio stations with its single Coat Rack.
In 2002, the Pleasantdales were awarded the title of ³Best Rock Band² at the
Atlanta Local Music Awards.
Touring extensively throughout the Southeast, the Pleasantdales have built a strong and dedicated following, helping them to secure many high profile shows
including Atlanta¹s Music Midtown Festival, New York¹s CMJ Festival and the annual Atlantis Music Conference among many others.
