Marclar - Biography 10/06

Artist: Marc Larson, a.k.a. Marclar

Genre: Hip-Hop/Downtempo

Description: From somber, ambient vibes to funk-induced jazzy grooves and hard-hitting sci-fi beats. Textured sounds are used to create rhythm & movement, with less focus on melodies.

Suited for: A wide range of multi-media projects – all styles, moods & visual settings. Tracks are a perfect complement to visuals as his subtle production techniques and “less is more” construction create catchy (but not overpowering) compositions. When combined with imagination or visual images, these tracks are the perfect subconscious element to any experience.

Format: Non-studio mixed .wav files. Shortened versions of full songs, many tracks are without a defined verse, chorus or bridge for the purpose of background music. Quick and easy referencing.

Influences: Jazz, Funk, Soul, Disco, 80’s (Pop & New Wave), Deep House, Hip-Hop, Downtempo, Techno, Breakbeat, Drum & Bass/Jungle, Rock, Punk, Reggae, Ska, Dub and Dancehall .

Favorite Artists: Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, The Crusaders, Steely Dan, War, The Police, The Specials, Eric B. & Rakim, Tribe Called Quest, J.T. Donaldson and Jonny L. – to name a few.

Bio
Hailing from ‘America’s Finest City’ [San Diego, CA] is one of America’s finest up and coming producer/DJs. Marc Larson, a.k.a. Marclar, is a creative 28 year old who is known for making music by any means necessary, with minimal equipment and no formal musical training. The result is a raw style of Downtempo/Hip Hop that catches your ear immediately as the beat kicks.

Marclar jumped into the scene at the beginning of the millennium, playing a broad spectrum of music as well as venues. From Hip-Hop, Funk and Jazz to Deep House, 80’s and Drum & Bass/Jungle, his well-constructed DJ sets illustrate a defined style and smooth continuity. A few years of DJing was enough to influence a transition into making original music for other DJ’s, groups and multi-media productions. Marclar produces songs for local artists and national media – his tracks have appeared on extreme sports videos, TV shows and Radio.
